Taylor Metcalf Cup

The Metcalf Cup is a memorial tournament for an Oxford youth hockey player, Taylor Metcalf, who was killed in a car accident in 1995. Taylor loved playing hockey. After the accident we started the Metcalf Fund and the Metcalf Cup to provide support for underprivileged kids to play youth hockey and as a way to keep Taylor's memory alive. Every year we support five, six, or seven kids in youth hockey. We help with/pay dues and buy equipment for needy children. In other words, this tournament is for a very good cause. All proceeds from the tournament and the concession stand go to the Metcalf Fund. Miami University donates some of the concession inventory which helps a lot. The rink personnel help significantly because many of them knew Taylor and believe in our cause.  We keep prices reasonable and have a four game guarantee.

The teams play for the Metcalf Cup. Games go on time, every kid gets a tournament memento, winners and runners-up get team and individual trophies (the winner gets the Cup), we announce goals and assists, and have lots of music and food.  We play all games at Miami’s new rink, a great facility in an interesting college town.

Some teams win and some teams lose, but we try to make it fun for all and keep things in perspective. We have learned what is really important and we try to keep that as the theme of this event. Lynn Metcalf, Taylor's Mom, usually works throughout the tourney and Lynn and I present the awards/mementos to each kid. I was Taylor's coach for three years.

We are grateful for your support and will do everything we can to make this a good experience for you and your families. Please feel free to pass this to parents if you think it is appropriate. Also, if you think appropriate, please pass on to other teams that you believe would be a good fit for this event. We will do Mite House Select, Squirt House Select and Squirt A on the weekend of March 21, 22, 23, and Peewee A on the weekend of March 14, 15, 16.
